All UUP members are invited to attend an important meeting in the Weiskotten 2nd floor Lecture Hall, room 2231, at Noon on March 1st. Jamie Dangler, our State UUP VP for Academics, will be here to discuss several important topics. She will discuss the current contract situation and challenges UUP is facing negotiating. She will also discuss the important Janus case that is being heard by the US Supreme Court on Monday in Washington, which is a union-busting case. Jamie will also answer any questions you may have at that time. Jamie is past chapter President of the Cortland UUP chapter. She was also the Chief Negotiator of our last contract that expired on July 1, 2016.
We will also hold a chapter budget vote and a contract rally in the meeting. Rallies are being held on all SUNY UUP campuses around the state that day to show unified support for a fair contract to the Chancellor. We are being told that the Chancellor is the one holding back on fair negotiations. The theme for the Rally is RESPECT!
A box lunch and beverage will be provided. Please RSVP to the Upstate UUP office by phone: 315-422-5028 or by email to: Syracuse@UUPMail.org so we may have a proper count to order enough lunches. Sorry for short notice, but we need to hear from you ASAP if you plan to attend.
Carl Pettengill, President
UUP Upstate Chapter
UUP has issued a fact sheet that explains New York State’s new Paid Family Leave Law and its implications for our members. It’s posted on the UUP website and can be accessed at the link below.
NYS’s New Paid Family Leave Law: Implications for UUP Members:
UUP Upstate Chapter Secretary (Elected)
September 15, 2015
As we enter our last year of the current contract, we are heading into another round of contract negotiations. This can be a long and drawn out process, sometimes taking several years. A team of very competent individuals has been assembled to take on the charge of writing our next contract.
UUP is the exclusive bargaining unit between the New York State Executive Branch (Governor’s Office) and those serving as New York State public employees with a 26P job title.
Some of you who have never been union before may not be aware that this is precisely where your 1% of your salary goes. It goes to pay for the ability for the union to conduct daily business, listen to members’ concerns, enforce the agreement between NYS and UUP, and ultimately bring these concerns to the negotiations table at time of the contract renewal.
